HOLIDAY LETTER FROM BRUCE CHERIFF AND KENNETH FINK

December 21, 2016

Dear Friends,

In the spirit of the holiday season, we’ve decided that today’s installment of the Cheriff & Fink blog should be akin to a Holiday Letter updating you on the firm, on our lawyers, and wishing you all a happy, healthy, peaceful, and prosperous 2017!

It’s been a few years since we branched out from our comfort zone in Manhattan and opened offices in Westchester and on Long Island.  With two partners and three offices, it’s sometimes difficult to keep track of where we are headed on any given day.  The upside, however, is huge.  We are better able to serve our clients’ needs from Suffolk County to upstate New York, to the Federal Courts of New Jersey with the flexibility of multiple locations.  We can generally meet clients closer to their homes or businesses than ever before.  Technology allows us to access office files remotely enabling us to more effectively work regardless of location.  Our new and improved website, blog, and Facebook page allow us to communicate in ways not imagined a mere decade ago.  Finally, our new cloud based phone system allows you to reach one of our partners via the same numbers you’ve been dialing for years, virtually all the time, regardless of which office they are in.  When you call you always speak to one of our partners and not to a secretary or law clerk!

When we started practicing law, neither of us even had a computer on our desks.  Now, as we approach 2017, we can walk into court holding virtually our entire office on our smartphones and tablets.

While technology has enhanced our practice, it has not depersonalized it.  We continue to take pride in our ability and desire to communicate effectively with our clients.  Be it in person, by phone, via email, or other electronic means, we have always felt that what distinguishes us from some of our peers, is our contact with our clients.  We try to make it as easy as possible to maintain open lines of communication throughout the pendency of our representation of our clients.

We continue to handle a wide array of matters for our clients to help best serve their needs.  Recently, as always,  Bruce has been busy multitasking.  He has been working on administration matters for a former personal injury client who died without a will; drafting and filing a legal action on behalf of a client who is suing her former real estate broker and attorney for negligence and fraud; settling several personal injury cases involving clients — one who slipped and fell at JFK international airport and two who were injured in car accidents just to mention a few.

Likewise, Ken has been hard at work handling a wide selection of personal injury and commercial matters, including a number of lawsuits pending in the Federal Courts of New Jersey.  While covering Courts from Riverhead to Camden (NJ) to Poughkeepsie, Ken seemingly has opened a fourth Cheriff & Fink location in the front seat of his car.  With a bevy of cases recently placed on the trial calendar, 2017 looks to be a busy year for Ken and Bruce.

On the personal front, Ken is in the second year of serving as President of the Board of Trustees of Temple Hillel Southside Jewish Center in his hometown of North Woodmere.  Ken and his wife, Jacqui Simons, an orthodontist on Long Island and in NYC, are thrilled that their youngest son, Harry, will be joining his brother, Jacob, as an undergrad at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY.  Jacob is currently a sophomore at Cornell studying Policy Analysis and Management, and Harry is a graduating senior at Hewlett HS where he is captain of the Varsity baseball team and its starting catcher.  Ken, will once again be hosting a number of Hewlett HS seniors at our Hewlett office as part of their Senior Internships required for graduation.

Bruce became a vice-president of his local BNI group in Mount Kisco, NY.  Bruce and his wife Jill are happy to report that they have two college graduates who are now in the working world with one working as a Spanish Immersion teacher and the other as a freelance sound engineer.  Bruce has only one child left in college.  She will be graduating soon with a degree in Music Education.  As many clients know, Bruce’s son performs in a Band – Modern Diet.  The band performs all over NYC and also at colleges on the Eastern Seaboard and with their music available on Spotify, Itunes, Vimeo, and Youtube.

We’d love to hear what you’re up to, as well.  Feel free to contact us by phone, email, or in person.  Please accept our best wishes for a wonderful holiday season and happy 2017!

Yours truly,

Bruce J. Cheriff & Kenneth S. Fink
